The fact is that the most important thing in life is to be self-aware and open to the possibility. We might think that we are in the know about our health, but we’re not. We may be too busy thinking about our own health to truly be open to the possibility of self-awareness. We can also be too busy thinking about our own health in order to be self-aware.
The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.
The fact is that we are in a continual state of autopilot. We don’t think about what we’re doing or why we’re doing it anymore. We don’t have a plan. We are not conscious of what we do. This is also true for other human beings. Our entire lives are spent in a continuous state of autopilot.
We are, yes, all humans, in a continual state of autopilot. Think of a person who drives a car. You don’t ask them where they’re going, what they’re going to do, or why they’re doing it. You just want to get from A to B as fast and as safe as possible. In the same way, we want to get from point A to point B as fast and as safe as we can.
That’s the same as saying that our lives are autopilot. But it’s not. We can always do more. We can always change things, we can always create new ways of living. What we need to do is wake up and look at what we are doing. What we are doing is creating autopilot.
It’s very easy to fall into autopilot thinking. When we think about ourselves in terms of our goals and plans, we focus on immediate results. If we have a goal to start a new business, we start a business, if we want to buy a house, we buy a house. But we forget that we are living in a virtual world, and for most of us there’s no one living next to us.
Autopilot is a real thing, even when we tell ourselves that we are not. We have to look at the very things that we do, the very things that we plan, and the very things that we have already decided that we are going to do. We can’t stop because it will be useless. We can look at the very things that we are doing, and figure out how to change them.
We need to get into the habit of looking at where we are. We need to stop saying “if I can’t do this then I won’t be able to do this,” and say, “what you want to do doesn’t matter. What matters is whether or not you are doing what you want to do.” It’s a very simple thing to work on.
We plan things, make choices, make plans. We plan our life, and we make plans to achieve our goals. When we make plans we are making plans, and when we make plans we are making plans.
