I think people can be a bit self-centered when it comes to the things we really care about. When we are stressed, we tend to focus on the things we think we have control over. We tend to take it as a given that we’re going to do our best to take care of ourselves but we fail to realize that we can always change our situation.

When we do realize that we can change our situation, we tend to think we can never change it again. But that’s not true.

How we do this is like the way we think about the future. We think of things that we are working on or are working on with our children, and then we think of the things that we are focusing on. But we don’t realize that we can change our situation by thinking about things that we are working on.

So when you are thinking about something that you are focusing on, you start to make your situation worse. Now we know this is a common way of thinking, but the problem is its not a very effective way of thinking. A very effective way of thinking is to realize that you can change your situation.
