By A week ago, I was in the checkout line at the grocery store. I was looking at the box of cookies and saw this box in the back. I had just finished lunch and was making my way to the checkout line. I walked in and was greeted by this box just minutes before it was to be picked up by the cashier. I opened it and saw two cookies inside. I quickly grabbed them and walked out the store with a smile on my face.
Another thing I see in grocery store checkout lines is grocery store cashiers. They’re usually a good 30 or 35 years younger than me, and I see a lot of younger people in their 20s or 30s carrying boxes of groceries. But like the grocery store cashiers, they sometimes have the same face a lot of times. In this case, I saw a woman wearing a bright red, high-heeled shoe.
Well, I guess there’s something to the idea that people with gray hair are more likely to have a cashier with a red dress, but if so, there’s also something to the idea that elderly cashiers are more likely to carry a red dress. Either way, I noticed a lot of cashiers in my neighborhood in the last few months. The more I go, the more I see.
I don’t know if this is simply a trend or something more specific, but I’m seeing more elderly cashiers in my neighborhood. So what is it that’s causing them to come into my store? And what does it have to do with the fact that we have to ask our customers to show their driver’s licenses? The answer is probably a lot of things.
I always tell folks that you’re only as old as your cashier, so they’ve got to be able to pass one test before they’re considered fully elderly. I’m glad to see that in the new age we’ve come for our cashiers, those of us older than fifty have come of age.
